Planned Renovations

Before                             After

Shed:

Build an 8 x 7 ft shed for tricycles, balls and other playground equipment. It will be constructed from the ground up. It will need to have a door. The door will need hinges, a knob and lock. It needs to be painted with an approved primer and paint.

Play Structure:

The jungle gym needs to be pressure washed or cleaned by hand. Apply zinc coating to welds. The rust on the play poles need to be sanded down and then painted over with  primer and then apply an external approved paint  then finally apply a sealant . Then the slide needs to be re-waxed with wax paper or silicone spray. Also the steps and platform of the j.gym need to be painted as mentioned above.

Wall Renovation:

The playground walls need to be hand washed with cleaning supplies and rags or pressure washed to strip the dirt, then it needs to be painted  new fresh colors preferably to match the beautiful mural. If interested the kids could also have their hand prints and names on this side of the wall to show their school spirit through the playground.

Paint the Asphalt:

I will retrace the lines over the previous ones already there with brighter colors. To do this we need Asphalt based latex traffic paint and small rollers.

Preschool Activities/Exercise Website:

I want to stay connected to this project after I leave. So I want to set up a website with exercise videos for kids just to keep them active with and without the new playground. I also would love to have crafts and fun  projects that parents and kids can work  on together at the website.  Anyone will be able to share and post ideas or craft ideas right to the website as well. Along with pictures or things that go on in the daily life of a preschooler.

Asphalt painting

  1. Purchase the Right Paint For Your Job

    • There isn't a one-size-fits-all paint that is appropriate for every asphalt paint job. A paint that performs well in heavy automobile traffic won't be appropriate for decorating a children's playground, and vice versa. You need to determine what you want out of your paint job, and understand the limitations of various asphalt paints, before going out and starting the project.

    Asphalt Paints

    • One thing most asphalt paints will share in common is that they are typically latex-based. According to Evergreen, a Canadian non-profit focusing on urban living projects, latex, waterproof paints decrease the risk of runoff and are also less toxic. This is good for the environment in standard roadway and parking lot applications and for playground use. Your local paint store should have access to a variety of paints that are acceptable for your particular use.
Paints will differ in areas of durability, color-fastness and mode of application. A good playground paint will typically be less durable than a roadway paint simply because it isn't necessary for good function. In fact, it is sometimes a good idea for a less durable paint to be used in playground situations for increased flexibility should new designs or playground games be preferred after a few years. By contrast, no one wants their road lines fading in a short amount of time because it is unsafe. Parking lots, driving lanes and other vehicle guides typically should be painted with paints specifically designed to endure the rigors of daily traffic.

    Painting a Playground Area

    • When painting a playground area, there are a few simple steps that will make your project perform well over time. Peaceful Playgrounds advises that you sweep and thoroughly wash the area prior to painting. Wait for the area to dry before application. Also, rather than relying on your freehand artistic talent, it is a good idea to use chalk to map out the designs and shapes you are going to paint. This will reduce the likelihood of mistakes that may not go away for quite some time. As an added safety concern, Peaceful Playgrounds notes that sealers should not be used in the playground scenario. These are commonly used for asphalt durability on driveways, but they can increase the risk of slipping and, therefore, create a hazard in any area where children frequently play.

What To Use To Apply the Paint

    • Applying paint is simple. Usually, road and parking lot lines will be applied with special "stripers" that help form neat, clear and straight lines. These are available anywhere that sells asphalt paint. For playgrounds, rollers, sprayers and brushes will all do the job well. Sprayers and rollers will do much better on large areas, while brushes will work on small detail work. If using a brush, be sure to select one approved for use on asphalt; otherwise, you may find that the bristles don't stand up to the coarseness of the asphalt. Finally, take care not to paint yourself into corners as the paint will need some time to dry before it can be tread upon.

Painting Metal Playground Equipment

Instructions

    • 1
Restore zinc coating to any welds made to repair play equipment. Sandblast or wire brush the weld to remove slag, then coat the welded area with a zinc-rich paint. Zinc-rich paint is available in spray cans or containers for brush painting.
    • 2
Clean the play equipment with warm, soapy water. Use a terry cloth rag to wash all surfaces. Make certain to remove all dirt and grease. Rinse thoroughly with clear water.
    • 3
Allow the metal play equipment to dry thoroughly. Joints between metal pipes and bars take longer to dry. Make certain all surfaces are completely dry before proceeding.
    • 4
Sand all surfaces using 280- to 320-grit sandpaper. Wipe surfaces with a clean cloth to remove paint dust.
    • 5
Apply etch primer to ensure a good paint bond. Follow manufacturer's instructions to brush or spray etch primer onto play equipment surfaces.
    • 6
Paint with exterior-grade, lead-free paint. Follow manufacturer's instructions.

Restoring Playground Equipment

How to Restore Faded Plastic Outdoor Play Equipment

By Jennifer Eblin, eHow Contributor

Outdoor play equipment, including jungle gyms and swing sets, are specifically designed for use outside, but that doesn't mean the pieces hold up well to the environment. The rays from the sun, water from rain and even snow and ice during the winter months cause the pieces to fade and lose the original color or luster. It won't be long before that bright red slide has an almost pink tone. Restoring the faded plastic outdoor play equipment makes the pieces look almost new again.

* 1
Wash the play furniture with distilled white vinegar, poured into a spray bottle. Spray the vinegar directly on the play equipment and use a scrub brush to work the vinegar around. Wipe the equipment dry with an old towel.

* 2 Mix the bleach and cold water together in a plastic bucket. While wearing rubber gloves, gently dip the scrub brush in the solution and transfer it to the play equipment. Scrub the bleach solution around, removing any mildew or mold from the plastic. Rinse the equipment with a garden hose and dry with the old towels.

* 3 Look over the play equipment carefully, checking for any glossy areas that the paint won't adhere to. Lightly sand those areas with fine grit sandpaper, giving it a slightly rough surface. Wipe down the piece with a soft cloth, removing any plastic dust.

* 4 Cover the ground with old newspapers and position the faded play equipment on top of the papers. Hold the spray paint can at least 10 inches away from the piece, and apply an even coating of paint to the faded plastic.

* 5 Check the piece carefully for any uneven patches and wipe away while the paint is still wet. When the paint dries, apply a second coat or use a different color on a different area of the play equipment. Let the paint dry completely before using.

Tips & Warnings

* If your equipment has designs or decorations, use masking tape to mark off different areas based on color. Work with one color at a time and let the paint dry fully before removing the masking tape and moving on to a new color.

How to Paint Asphalt

Any Home Depot and a lot of hardware stores sell a specific paint called 'traffic paint' designed and formulated for asphalt or pavement painting. This is the same high-quality paint the street maintenance crews use. You can get it in the standard traffic colors of blue, white, yellow and red. This specially formulated enamel paint dries to the tough in about a half-hour.

Behr, Glidden and Rustoleum all sell versions of this traffic paint and Home Depot will sell either the Behr and Glidden or Rustoleum brands. The only Krylon paint offered by Home Depot is in spray paint form.

(NOTE: You won't need special equipment, like a paint sprayer, to do the job yourself. All you'll need is several rolls of masking tape, a drop cloth or two and a brush. You might also want some white chalk to chalk mark off the your lines. Then you use the masking tape, making sure you press the tape smugly into the rough surfaces of the asphalt, following your chalk drawn lines.)

And I apologize for the distractions that have nothing to do with offering you the best possible solution to your specific needs. Fragile egos that appear as vexations can sidetrack the original intent.

I mentioned Home Depot because they have stores across the country in most locations how. You can also buy this traffic paint in your local Do It Center hardware stores if there isn't a Home Depot near you.
